Blog Comment Assignment - Japanese Internment

1. Can you think of any other examples of a population being forced to move, relocate, or live in an area away form everyone else? Think about personal experiences, other historical or contemporary events or fictional examples in movies, TV shows, books etc.
2. How do you feel about it?
3. Was the government justified in  relocating the Japanese Canadians during WWII?

  1. Jewish people were forced to move out of Germany and other parts of the world. The Holocast.
I agree with it becasue there are too many.
Yes the government was right in relocating the Japanese Canadians during WWII because if one Japanese slipped behind them, they would tell the others and it could bombard the other country.

  2. Another example of forced evacuation in history was when America and Canada forced the native Americans to go live on reserves away from the majority ofthe population. They were forced out of their homes in order for the europeans to take over all of their valuabe resources and land. This was an example of an assimilation effort to transform native culture to European-American culture. That is not right as Europe just invades a new continent expecting it to be deserted while instead there are people living there and there is no empathy shown towards them. The Europeans just take all of their land and kick them out of their own property. They had no right to do that.
I do not think that the government had a justified reason for relocating the Japanese canadians during ww1 because they are all canadians. They immigrated to Canada from their home countries, but they do not have any interest in involvement in the war. The people who attacked pearl harbour were Japanese not Canadian-Japanese. Also, it is dumb to get involved in a precautionary measure that does not impact Canada at all. The bombing of pearl harbour may have impacted u.s.a but had nothing to do with Canada, and they had no right to get involved.

  3. 1I moved to the Canada k/j
the Jews were forced to move and being killed and some people in durfar today
2Thats awlful really no one can decide other peoples life. And no one should think their race is better.
3However in the Ca's point of view gov should do that. Because gov scared if there are a lot of spies there. And Canada citizens' life are worth more to the government.

  4. 1.) Amnesty International today denounced yet another dramatic increase in the number of Colombians forced to leave their homes because of the armed conflict and urged the warring parties to stop dragging civilians into the hostilities.
2.) I think it's unfair how people are forced to move away from their homes.
3.) No. The government was wrong to relocate the Japanese Canadians. They should've been treated the same since they were Canadians too. The Japanese Canadians had nothing to do with the troubles from before. It was unfair how the Japanese Canadians were forced to move out of their homes just because they were part Japanese.

  5. 1. Other example of a population being forced to move is that in the early years in Canada, the British had a battle with French, and they asked French Canadians if they would help them fight with French, the French Canadians said that they wouldn't help anyone; as a result, they were forced to leave their own lands by the government.
    2. I think it is not good to force people to move or relocate.
3.NO. The government should not force Japanese Canadians to move, because they have immigrated Canada and they were not the people who attacked , it had nothing to do with them.

  6. Since Columbus discovered the North America, millions of African were brought to there by European as slaves for the farms. The European forced the slaves work day and night and not only did it cause many people die, but the journey from Africa to North America made thousands of people starve to death. It's really horrible because the European has never cared about the feeling of the African who was forced to move. So did the fact that Canadian Government used to relocate the Japanese Canadians during WWII. The Government had no evidence to prove the Japanese Canadians were "dangerous"; however, they did it. It's really unjustified without doubt.

  7. 1.) This reminds me of when Jewish people were being forced to move to different parts of the world and they weren't accepted anywhere

    2.) I don't agree with it because it's wrong

3.) I don't think the government was justified because the Japanese-Canadians are humans just like us and they had no interest in war anymore

  9. One group of people would be gay and lesbians. Gay marriages not excepted in some states in the US and parts of Canada. Gay is usually looked down upon such as people would say "that's so gay". Gay, in this context, is not a positive statement. It does not refer to something happy or good. It refers to something bad, uncool, socially unacceptable or simply not ok. More importantly, this expression is a condemnation of a particular group of people in our society who defy the social norms of a person.
I don't agree that it was okay, that the Japanese were sent to camp.

  10. 1) When the jewish people were forced to leave germany, that was wrong.
    2) I dont agree with it beacause its wrong to force people out of where they live.
3)The government was wrong to relocate the japanese, so no they werent justified. The japanese had nothing to do with the war.

  11. 1.) An example I can think of is the Komagata Maru when the Indians had come to live in Canada but were sent back because of there race. Due to the abundant amount of racism the Indians were forced to relocate and were sent back not getting a chance to get off the ship.

2.) I feel that this sort of injustice is not right. People should be able to live wherever they want no matter what race or culture they are. The government should not be allowed to determine where a certain type of person shall live by race or just because of racism.

3.) The government was not justified in relocating the Japanese Canadians during WWII because it was only assumed that they were spies and helping the Japanese. But in reality it was just racism.

  12. 1. During World War 2, an abundance of Jews had to leave their homes and were sent to camps. Racism played a huge part because Hitler wanted his own country to rule the world, so he captured millions of Jews who were mostly innocent, and did whatever he wanted to them.
When I watched Shutter Island a few weeks ago, people who had mental disabilites were sent to an asylum where they couldn't come in contact with any other people.
    2) The Holocaust was definitely horrific, because millions of Jews were killed. Hitler only wanted to retaliate, but out of all people, he picked the Jews. Even people who were innocent, he murdered or isolated them from everyone else. It was brutal and unfair but nobody could do anything about it.
However people who have mental disabilities, had to be isolated because it's only for the best. It's hard for these people to live in a neighbourhood because they could cause harm and damage. Which is why the government planned an asylum for them to be treated and taken care of (but not tortured like the Jews!)
    3) The government did not have the right to relocate the Japanese Canadians. Basically because people should have human rights and everybody should be fair to each other. However, during WW2 there was a lot of racism. Nobody really thought it was a big issue back in the day compared to today. Which explains why people didn't really mind when the Japanese were being relocated. But because right now we're thinking in the present, it would only make sense for us to think that all of this was very, very unfair.

  13. 1. jewish people were forced to move from germany to camps which is the same sort of thing that happend to japanese people.
2.i feel like it was very bad and totaly unfair.
3.no, they had no reason to relocate them because they never provid if there were spys they just did it because they could

  14. Another example of a population being relocated today is Natives in Canada and The United States. The Natives are being practically forced to live in one area all grouped together because of there beliefs and traditions. Another event I can relate this to is my family. I am German and I have heard stories about my family having many racist things happen to them because they were German and living in Canada. My family then relocated to Germany to fight in the war.
Obviously I find discrimination in any form a horribly wrong thing but I can understand how in the past if they had the power to control a certain group of people and needed to they would. They didn'y fully understand how wrong it is to be racist and with the treat of war there very well could have been a spy, although they had no proof

  15. 1) I remember reading a book on how in somewhere where special needs children weren't accepted, parents had a special needs child and were forced to move out of the village to somewhere where nobody would see or would care and had to live this secret life. I don't really remember if it was a true story or not, but that sort of relates to what we're talking about!
    2) About the story I read - I think its just ridiculous. You really don't want to get me started on the topic on how some people treat special needs kids but it's 100% not their fault and some people are just heartless and its ridiculous.
    3) I don't think the government was justified at all when they relocated the Japanese during WWII. Whether they were born in Canada or immigrated here from another country, they are still CANADIAN and didn't have any conflict with the war.

  16. 1)When the Holocaust was going on, the Jewish people had to relocate from Germany, because of Hitlers orders. After they left noone would want them because they were afraid that Hitler and his army would try and take over their city for that reason.
    2) It's horrible because if you just had to leave just like that, you probably woudnt be able to bring most of your valuables, say good bye to your friends, etc.
3)No I don't think that the goverment was justified in moving the Japanese-Canadians, because they had no intentions on the war, if they did, they wanted to HELP Canada, and they immigrated to Canada, wether they were the first generation the or a later one, they were still Canadian.

  17. 1 Aborigines people in Brazil were being killed by the portuguese because they are different than the portugueses
2 Its so wrong because they are natives from Brazil
3 No the government was wrong to doing that with the japaneses because they just want to leave here, here we have a better life than in others countries

  18. 1.)In the movie District 9 there were these alians that came to a place called Johannesburgh and they stayed there for 3 years. Citizens there became fet up with them so they were forced to move to camps or just somewhere else far away from their city.

2.)In my personal opinion i think it was fair for them to be forced because they just welcomed theirselves there without permission so it makes sense for them be relocated.

3.)No they were not justified because the Japanese-Canadians were born in Canada so they should have the right to stay there because we were all born in the same country.
